A rare, collectible, 1950’s, 3 pc set in an Associated American Artists print by Laura Jean Allen. Titled “Apothecary Shop,” this whimsical novelty print features sweets, café tables and soda fountain items that would have been in a mid-c drug store. White, pink, green, yellow and sherbet color palette is set against a black background.
This set consists of two tops; a sleeveless button-down blouse and a fitted, button-front strappy sun top, along with a pair of pedal pushers.
The sleeveless blouse has one breast pocket and a petite peter pan collar. Small pearlescent white buttons on c/f. “Hill-Day” boutique label is attached to back of collar.
Sun top has straps that come to a ‘v’ on back, and slightly larger buttons than those on other top. This is the only piece with the selvedge in seam that provides the AAA artist and title of the print.
High-rise pedal pushers have a button fly with the same size buttons as sun top. They have a roomy seat and thighs, and taper down towards hem. Leg openings are trimmed with pleated white cotton piqué and two buttons on the outside. One patch pocket on bum.
This piece is in very good overall condition. Fabric has light wear. Colors are bright. Black is a “washed” saturation, and is uniform on all three pieces. Side seams on sun top have been let out a bit, which you can see upon close inspection. The approximate 1” of fabric let out is slightly more saturated in color. There are some minor streaks on surface of shoulders on sleeveless blouse that may be from ironing (?). The waistband on pedal pushers also has two lines on front where they were let out a bit. There’s also a very small hole on seat of pants, and white piqué trim is a bit dingy.
